OpenRiot v7.9.58 — The Machine Behind Glass
“Eighty-eight lock screens. Some were good. Some were fine. Some were filler. Every time you locked the machine you rolled the dice on whether the glass would show you art or noise. We fixed that. Thirty-two images now. Every one of them deliberate. A pufferfish dissolving into a city skyline. Lime green caught in the edges. The word ‘Locked’ where you can actually read it. The Turing Police would call it ‘curating the lock screen asset set.’ We call it not making you gamble with your own wallpaper.” — The OpenRiot Crew, v7.9.58
Release Overview
The lock screen set was pruned from 88 images to 32 and fully regenerated. Every image now follows one of two intentional themes — a blowfish mark, or a futuristic cityscape with a pufferfish inkblot woven into the skyline. Lime green accents, ornate borders, and a crisp “Locked” over “Enter your password” readout that actually invites the password prompt instead of hiding from it.
Total changes: 88 images consolidated to 32, all regenerated.
🔒 Lock Screens: Curated, Not Accumulated
The old set had grown to 88 images of wildly inconsistent quality. Locking the machine was a lottery. The new set is 32 images, every one sharing a common visual language:
- Two themes. A blowfish mark, or a continuous futuristic cityscape with an OpenBSD pufferfish rendered as an inkblot inside the skyline. No other variations. No filler.
- Lime green splashes. The OpenRiot accent color runs through every frame as the binding thread.
- Readable lock text. “Locked” sits large and crisp over “Enter your password.” No password boxes, no fake UI, no menus or taskbars or dates cluttering the frame.
- Ornate borders. Each image is framed, edge to edge.
- Subtle branding. “OpenRiot” appears in the background, present but never loud.
The lock screen now looks like a product decision instead of a screenshot folder that got out of hand.

🗣️ Final Words
“Your lock screen is the first thing the machine shows you when it wants to be sure it’s still you. It should be good. Not good for a free desktop. Good. Period. Thirty-two images that were made on purpose, with a pufferfish that belongs there and a lime green that isn’t afraid to show up. The Turing Police would say ‘reduced asset count by sixty-four percent.’ We say we stopped making you roll the dice on your own front door.” — The OpenRiot Crew, v7.9.58
